This Cape Cod Canal business was sold and is now in the hands of Rhode Islander Dan Smalley and his friend Dennis Ryan of Massachusetts. Although the saltwater fishing lures are now manufactured in Cumberland, RI, these fishing fanatics have focused on continuing the handmade wooden craft designed by founder Stan Gibbs in 1946.
The demand of the Gibbs Lures plugs has only increased with its age. Since the establishment of Stan Gibbs' business, fishing has transformed into a popular leisurely sport that people of all ages participate in. Fishermen today prefer these natural, wooden products, originally nicknamed "poppers," because they are far more effective and synthetic than many plastic plugs that are manufactured by overseas competitors.
Gibbs fishing lures are a favorite among avid Southern New England fishermen.
